Zapata Falls
Zapata Falls is situated inside a narrow rock crevasse on the eastern
side of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is located a short drive from the
Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado.
There is a 0.5 mile trail to reach the waterfall.
LEFT PHOTO: When I visited Zapata Falls in February 2007, much of the waterfall was iced over,
although one could see some water falling down behind the massive ice structures. This
photo includes my friend Lars Leber, a professional photographer in Colorado Springs
(see: Lars Leber Photography),
whose presence helps give some perspective to the waterfall behind.
